Description

Plastic spatula

Our plastic spatula is a finishing hand tool. It has the same shape as the metal spatula with a quarter circle design for inserting a fabric in a wall upholstery track.
This hand tool works like a metal spatula. Hold it the same way. A back and forth movement gets the fabric into the tracks. Continue until the fabric has disappear completely. Therefore, you should consider acquiring them both.
Please don’t use it to fit the fabric at the beginning because it is not strong enough. The plastic will brake.

Why do I need a plastic spatula?

Let’s recap a fitting process.
Start fitting the fabric with a metal spatula. The fabric is in correct and final position and the cloth is cut down to about ½” to ⅜”. Now, the molding is exposed. In some cases, moldings have delicate paint or other type of softer finishes. A metal tool could leave some markings, so, the purpose of a plastic spatula is not to damage these surfaces. Only then, this plastic fabric tool is use along moldings.
Some wall finishes, framings are fragile like gold leaves or imitation. Lacquer paint and faux finishes too. We need to exercise prudence in such environment.

There is another place where a plastic spatula could become handy. For example against a mat ceiling. Or if you don’t have any molding and the track is close to a built-in cabinet. Therefore a white plastic spatula does not spoil some frames or any flat surface.

Clean molding and ceilings

Not long ago, we installed fabric on a single wall. The wall had a few niches sticky out like a box. So, the pieces of tracks went around and against the box. The surface was paint white.  I made a video about the tucking of the fabric.

To sump up, when we are working with these types of surroundings, we have a gentile fabric tool in plastic like the one describe above. Remember, it is only used at the end of an installation. When your job is nearly done.

We made a video presenting all tools including this one. Watch the cutting and fitting of tracks, then the fabric tuck tools.

With this in mind, all wall upholstery tools presented at Cleanedgesystem.com have a different purpose. Each one of them will accomplish a particular task during a fabric installation. We recommend a plastic spatula for tucking in remains of fabrics. Use it when moldings have fine finishes.

See another interesting spatula, the bay leaf for working in narrow spaces. It is a handy little tool too.
